Less Than Three

Dirk just kept an eye on them both, watching John until he sat down, then Robert when he emerged. The smell of the food was great, and it just made him aware of just how hungry he was.

"I made a few different things to choose from, so help yourself. I know you boys must have worked up an appetite." Robert smiled warmly.

Dirk's face flushed a little at the comment, clearing his throat as he kept his head down.

"Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad" John whined.

Robert only chuckled and started making his plate.

Dirk kept his gaze down, refusing to look up at Robert, only moving his head to subtly glance over at John.

"You can help yourself, Dirk" John offered, gesturing at the platters of home made chinese food.

Dirk looked in front of him before starting to plate his food, being extra careful on not making a mess of any sort.

John smiled and did the same. "Dad makes good chinese food."

"Everything looks great." Dirk murmured as he started to dig in, forcing himself to keep in the pleased sound he wanted to make from the flavors.

John took a bite and hummed in approval. "Better than usual" he informed his dad.

Robert nodded and looked to Dirk.

Dirk's eyes flicked up to the man, feeling his gaze on him. He swallowed his food, making sure there were no little bits that were going to go flying out when he spoke. "One of the best meals I've tasted." He murmured.

Robert smiled warmly.

Dirk looked back down as he ate, remaining silent for most of the meal.

John smiled at Dirk. "You want dessert?" he asked

Dirk looked over at him now, recalling what he said in his room. He wanted to avoid a confrontation with Robert, but he didn't want to seem rude.

"Cause I can bring some up to my room if you'd like" John smiled

"Sure." Dirk said with a small nod and a slight smile. "Sounds good."

"Before you boys go, if I could have a short word?" Robert smiled

Dirk went stiff for a moment before looking over at Robert. He cleared his throat. "Sure, Mr. E."

Roberts smile widened as John groaned. "Wonderful. I can not apologize enough for walking in on you boys earlier, but I can't say I'm not proud John finally found someone he wants to be with. All I ask is that you boys be safe"

"Daaaaaaaaad" John whined, hiding his face.

Oh god, here it came. Robert was going to give them a lecture, and he--

"What?" Dirk asked in surprise, his stoic expression replaced by one of complete bewilderment. "So you're...okay with this?"

"So long as you both promise to be safe, do your research and use a condom. I mean, getting tested wouldn't hurt, but I trust the two of you" Robert smiled

Dirk just kinda gawked at Robert, his mind blown. He expected the polar opposite of what just happened. And here he was, giving them both their consent.

John's face was flushed. "Thank you, can we go now"

"You were free to go any time" Robert smiled

Dirk gave his head a small shake and a nod before getting to his feet, making sure to push his chair back in once he was up.
