Unspoken Attraction

Karkat flopped down into the beanbag chair, wiggling to get comfortable. He sipped the aj, looking bored but feeling a little jealous. He was generally jealous of Jake.

Dave logged in and started up the skype call.

The call rang a few moments, it was likely that the volume was down low enough on John's computer that he just didn't hear it, or he had left his headphones plugged in again. It didn't matter because John's settings had Dave on auto answer due to the frequency of their chats. The camera turned on with a short burst of static, the screen going blank as it took time to focus.

And focus it did, on the back of a familiar ebony haired boy, sitting astride the lap of someone that could be his doppelganger with the right adjustments, only larger bodied. They were missing their glasses, though that was less concerning than the way they were practically glued at the mouth, John's fingers threaded through Jake's unruly locks as he kept him close, Jake's hands just out of view of the camera, presumably on John's ass.

It took a moment for Dave to realize just what was going on, but when he did, he stared at the screen for a long, horrified while, waving at them in the hopes that John or Jake might take notice of the heart broken teen watching them from the computer.

Jake finally pulled back from John to breathe, peppering the younger's face with little kisses before he noticed the computer. Without his glasses he couldn't see just what was on the screen, but the movement itself was enough to draw his attention. "John, something's pulled your computer from sleep mode. I think you may have gotten a message."

John hummed, feeling around on the bed for his glasses. He slipped out of Jake's lap and turned when he found them, slipping them onto his nose. He blushed darkly when he spotted Dave. "Dave!" he yelped in surprise.

"H-hey." Dave laughed, forcing himself to smile. "Thought Karkat might like to see you."

Behind John, Jake was looking for his glasses as well.

John's face was nearly crimson. "Oh, um, how is he doing? He hasn't gotten into any trouble has he?" John asked hastily, sitting at the computer and adjusting the camera so it only showed him. "I wasn't expecting you to skype me so soon about him" John admitted nervously, adjusting his collar and accidentally revealing a dark mark at the junction of his shoulder and neck.

Dave's eyes flitted from the mark on John's neck back to John's bright red face. "Nah, he's a bit of a grouch, but he's got a real soft under belly. I guess I should let you get back to mackin' on your boyfriend, though."

"no, no, you're fine" John replied. "He, um, he's not my boyfriend. We were just messing around a little. It isn't anything serious"

"Oh." Dave rubbed the back of his neck. "I could call you later, when you're not fooling around."

John quickly shook his head. "No, I mean, I don't get to talk to you enough, and Jake's gonna be here all night anyway. We can mess around later." He bit his lip and looked shy for a moment. "Do you wanna meet him? I know you say I talk about him a lot"

"Yeah... sure." Why not meet the guy making out with his crush?

John cleared his throat softly and turned to beckon Jake forward.

Jake stepped forward and stooped so he would be in the camera's frame. "Hullo there Chap, you must be Dave." he smiled, revealing his almost charmingly crooked front teeth. "John talks about your near constantly"

Karkat got up and stood behind Dave.

"Funny, he's always talking about you when he's around me. What's with that? Why don't you talk about me when you're around me, John? I'm a pretty great person to talk about, you know." Dave chuckled.

John rolled his eyes. "You do enough of that for both of us. Besides, someone has to keep your ego in check." he grinned before waving to Karkat, signing something so he could see.

Jake glanced and smiled. "Hullo Karkat, how's the weather down south?"

Karkat glared at the screen and flipped Jake off before turning his attention to John's signing.

"Damn, what's your problem?" Dave asked, tilting his head to eye Karkat.

Karkat side-eyed Dave with a warning growl.

"don't mind him." John stated "Karkat just isn't fond of Jake for some reason."

Dave simply leaned his head to the side and shrugged, as if indicating he could sympathize. At the moment, he wasn't feeling too fond of the guy either.

John signed to Karkat some more and finally the troll signed back. It went back and forth for a few minutes before John nodded. "Hey Dave, do you think you could pick up some cherry cool-aid for karkat? he doesn't want to drink all your apple juice and he isn't a fan of plain water."

Dave nodded. "Uh, sure, I can do that."

John looked to Dave. "Is that all you wanted?"

Karkat signed something, drawing john's attention

All Dave could do was wait for Karkat to finish signing.

John frowned. "What?"

Karkat just jerked his thumb at Dave.

"Very funny Karkat. Dave would have said something" John replied

Dave grumbled. "It's really great being talked about in a language I don't understand."

"He said you wanted to confess your undying love for me" John stated with a small frown. "But you would have said something if you liked me... Wouldn't you?"
