Jeff smiled as he watched John. "My little cutie."

John's face flushed and he hurried from the room. The shower could be heard starting up a moment later.

Jeff groaned in frustration. He knew exactly who told Dave. He and Dirk would be getting into a fight over this later. Hopefully Dave wasn't heading over to the Egbert house at this moment. He got up to get dressed. Better be prepared just in case.

John took his time in the shower. Partially he was zoned out thinking, and partially he wasn't ready to face Jeff again after Dave's outburst. He finally got out when the water started to get cold. He hastily dried off and wrapped the towel around himself before shuffling back out to Jeff's room.

Jeff smiled at him. He was sitting on his bed, using the internet on his phone. "Get your all squeaky clean?"

John nodded. He grabbed a pair of boxers to wear from his backpack before abandoning the towel in favor of crawling up into Jeff's lap. "Dave hates me now" he whispered

Jeff set his phone aside to wrap his arms around John. "His feelings are hurt. He doesn't hate you. You're his best friend."

"Dirk told didn't he?" John asked, tucking his head under Jeff's chin.

Jeff sighed. "Had to have been Dirk."

"Does he hate me?" John asked in a whisper. He was clinging to Jeff tightly, very obviously still upset.

Jeff nuzzled him. "Dirk? No baby, he hates me."

"Why?" John asked, looking up at Jeff with wide eyes

Jeff sighed again. "Long story kid. I'll tell you some other time."

John nodded, tilting his head back down. "I love you" he murmured.

Jeff kissed the tip of his nose. "I love you to John." He squeezed the younger male, holding him close. "I won't let antone take you from me."

"Promise?" John asked.

There was a knock on the front door.

"Promise." Jeff gave him a quick kiss before placing him on the bed. "Stay in here and stay quiet." He was whispering. "I'm going to do what I can. Just stay calm." Jeff gave him a kiss on the cheek before leaving the room. The oldest Strider stopped in front of the apartment door, took a deep breathe before opening it. He kept his expression neutral before making a slightly surprised face. "Can I help you?"

Robert didn't look happy. "Where's Johnathan?" he asked coldly.

Jeff frowned. "Why would I know where he's at?"

"Because he said he was staying here for the weekend, and David just at my home nearly in tears over what he told me" Robert replied with a glare. "He's coming home with me."

Jeff continued to frown, trying to look like he was confused. "I have no idea what you're talking about. The boys haven't been home all day. It's just me and Cal here."

"Jeffery, do not lie to me." Robert's eyes narrowed. "I can see Johnathan's jacket on the back of that ridiculous thing you use as a couch. I am positive his shoes are by the door, and what you are doing is several levels of illegal and you should be thankful that I haven't brought the police with me to retrieve my son."

Jeff was scowling now. "First off, it's a fucking futon. Not all of us are rich like you. Secondly, the little brat leaves shit here all the time. You tryin to start shit with me Robert?"

"Oh a futon is it? Is that where you fucked my underage son?" Robert snarled. "He's a child, younger than your little brothers and half your age. You are a sick, twisted man, and I refuse to let this continue. I want my son now, and I don't want you near him!"

Jeff rolled his eyes, crossing his arms. "I don't know what David told you, but you need to back the fuck off. YOu get on my ass but everything under the sun. Yet here you are, in MY apartment, UNINVITED I MIGHT ADD, using foul language and accusing me of shit." He pointed to the street. "Try not to let my door hit your flat ass as you walk away. Poor folks like myself can't afford nice things. But you wouldn't know about what it's like to struggle finacially, would you?"
